more progress....

Okay, so here is more progress. I'm not sure what to think but it is coming along. Hopefully it'll be done before Monday. The black frame is probably how it will be cropped. 

started painting....

Okay so I started painting it and I'm not really sure how it's going. I feel like I'm in a rut right now with my progress and I'm not sure why. Unless I'm just realizing more of my weaknesses. I'm not sure. Maybe I have artists block right now. Any advice on how to break out of it. I'll ty and keep working on it more.

I defined the figures more and finished the guy with the gun. I need to define the gun more but I'll be ready to start painting this pretty soon. 

new illustration....

This is a new illustration I'm working on for the NY comic con which is next weekend. I'm done some comic page samples too but i need to find a bigger scanner to scan them. Hopefully I'll be coloring this one soon. 

finished I think...

Okay.... I think this is done. I might tweak some parts later but for now it's done. I always go through a process at one point where I don't want to work on it anymore because I don't like how it is turning out. Luckily, I'm stubborn enough to keep working on it and things eventually work out. I'm glad I did this because it re-reminded me to learn more about drapery and cloth over a figure. Doing paintings in school and observational drawings on the subway def helped but I still run into issues where I don't feel completely confident and I'm basically just faking my way through the process. Anyway, if anyone sees anything technically that could be better, please let me know. (If you are using a mac, the colors might come out a little bit washed out because it does on my screen for some reason. When I look at it on a PC, it looks close to the original. Not sure why.) Time to move on to some fun stuff!

Here is some more progress. Hopefully it'll get done today. 

starting coloring....

Okay... so I started adding color to this using a diff method then i normally do. I painted the image in black and white and then starting painting over it by setting the layer to color. I noticed that you can't do too much using this method because you can't really go darker so you have to create another layer. It's a little frustrating but I guess it's a good experience. Hopefully this will be done by tomorrow.  

I know conceptually, this isn't that great but I have this beef with a company that fired me a year ago and it was to draw an elf holding in orb. They insulted me and said I wasn't good at drawing. Well, maybe I did have some issues but it was something that still pisses me off from time to time. Even though I've redone this before, I decided to redo it again. I'm doing this more as an exercise in painting than anything else. I'll def come up with some better stuff conceptually soon.

Black and White painting of sketch below. I'm gonna start painting it in color using a technic I read about online. I'll see how it works.
