<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Let's just say painting garbage bags is a pain in the ass. They're simple yet there is a lot of subtly in there key lights and if you don't paint it right, it can look really off. </div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My goal is to finish this tomorrow night hopefully. </div>

That's mainly because I've been meaning to redesign this site for a long time but there never seems to be enough time to do everything.<br />
<br />
I did finally redesign my portfolio website (<a href="http://www.iantopple.com/">www.iantopple.com</a>). I'm happy with the result and have started looking for another job. I'm grateful for the job I have now but I feel like I've outgrown it a bit and want to look for something with better creative opportunities and responsibilities. I've had some interviews but so far no luck. We'll see what happens.<br />
<br />
I've also decided to redo my facebook header. This is what I've been currently working on.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDYczW-G1JsuaaDoWvlW4vL0sdq0RcyINA29nwtTB_Yq2mT42jLrbDXz7YkSkd77wXWr30D5eBe6ySIXg96EeV9yBvQIV-s07m_RM-xqrS8AMNN5v-oVmLD_XSbDVcq57YujlmfMjq9BBk/s1600/final+flattened+and+painted+over-01.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDYczW-G1JsuaaDoWvlW4vL0sdq0RcyINA29nwtTB_Yq2mT42jLrbDXz7YkSkd77wXWr30D5eBe6ySIXg96EeV9yBvQIV-s07m_RM-xqrS8AMNN5v-oVmLD_XSbDVcq57YujlmfMjq9BBk/s1600/final+flattened+and+painted+over-01.jpg" height="118" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I don't understand why blogger gets rid of some of the contrast. The foreground is supposed to be darker and the bg is a little bit lighter. Anyway, I'm liking the direction this is going in. The animals I have sketched in will be mutated rats I think.<br />
<br />
During this process, it really has been a journey and where it's going is certainly better than what I thought it would be. When this is finished, I'll post the result.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-31003709541953926372013-10-22T15:11:00.004-04:002013-10-22T15:11:51.994-04:00Working progress...Here's the working progress of the image so far.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxrsFBwXbgXpPcpmXC7CMZJlfhyphenhyphenz_j0gu5q2R2nCGkdVMf8etvMOOXN-R6ejvkJQ8VC7ChTe1CyVkHKW_dzrU3-YyDjbxQTWBabkBs78_9wi9xnHob82wWZQOvc019PsPxa_M6wZpfL4I9/s1600/drawing-02-flattened-01aa.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="258" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhxrsFBwXbgXpPcpmXC7CMZJlfhyphenhyphenz_j0gu5q2R2nCGkdVMf8etvMOOXN-R6ejvkJQ8VC7ChTe1CyVkHKW_dzrU3-YyDjbxQTWBabkBs78_9wi9xnHob82wWZQOvc019PsPxa_M6wZpfL4I9/s320/drawing-02-flattened-01aa.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I realized I had to redraw the girl a bunch of times in order to get her right. I'm finally happy with how she came out.<br />
<br />
I realize now after looking at it that I will probably need to fix the shadows and make them look more like they did in the color thumbnail. They look too long for the time of day I'm going for. <br />
<br />
I wanted to try something new and get out of my comfort zone for a change. Children book illustration has crossed my mind so I wanted to give it a try. I also haven't really painted any outdoor scenes before because I was too afraid. It sounds stupid but there is a lot to think about when you are painting an outdoor scene, not dimension I had to use perspective and cast shadows. For some reason cast shadows scared me. <br />
<br />
While working on it, I'm not sure if this what I want to do be doing. It was definitely challenging and I've been learning a lot from it but I think I really need to figure out what it is "I" really like drawing.<br />
<br />
We'll see what happens. My goal is to finish this by the weekend. <br />

I'm working on a new illustration. It's a little girl riding a pentaceratops in a suburban neighborhood. I'm going to really focus on getting my perspective and lighting better this time. I did some studies below of the general lighting that I want. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Below is a thumbnail that I liked for the new illustration. Things might be hard to tell now because it's so small but it will be clearer as I work on it. The little blob on top of the pentaceratops will be the child and the little blob to the bottom right of it will be a person walking a dog in shock of what he sees.</div>

Side Note: This blog needs to be redesigned. At last I finished it. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2DE7H3mJDMtWjABAKd2ieJVc1aEWs4xKhRDg_UP4fVRRcr4jZUkZXNTfS_4Dj401nOyxleZDuFfDZ9cq3B6PHX8xflQfsAOPcRYE0pXTtRwkzKxgezda8NZXOXGO7stbdXrk7JGnM1HhS/s1600/attachment.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh2DE7H3mJDMtWjABAKd2ieJVc1aEWs4xKhRDg_UP4fVRRcr4jZUkZXNTfS_4Dj401nOyxleZDuFfDZ9cq3B6PHX8xflQfsAOPcRYE0pXTtRwkzKxgezda8NZXOXGO7stbdXrk7JGnM1HhS/s320/attachment.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Yes I know. It has some problems. This is what I learned from this experience:<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">I should never be lazy about perspective ever EVER again. </span></b><br />
<br />
I kind of had a feeling that the perspective was somewhat off in the beginning stages but I never bothered to fix it. Why? Because I was lazy. I thought maybe I could pull it off and no one would notice. <b>Wrong</b>. That was just dumb of me. I should have taken the time to put down my horizon line and vanishing points and did it the proper way like I have in the past. Next time, I will put down that effen horizon line.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Spent more time figuring out the light source.</span></b><br />
<br />
I sort of fudged the light source too. There is no definite light source. I was confused about where to put my light source because I wanted it to be overall a cloudish night so there wouldn't be any harsh lighting. I guess I should have invested more time in figuring out how other artists tackled this issue.<br />
<br />
<b><span style="font-size: large;">Come up with a better composition. </span></b><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">The composition should have been changed to make the mouse and rat more the focus. This was something I struggled with. I tried doing it here with the contrast but the mouse and rat are hard to see. I had another idea for the composition but I couldn't get it right. Yesterday as I was resketching composition ideas for this, I finally got it right. Why did it take this long? I don't know but over the course I was working on this, I have been getting better at composition anyway. </span></span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">Those are the main things I learned from this. Deep down, I really just wanted to draw some cats and that was the toughest part for me. I was trying really hard to get the anatomy right and make sure the cats were drawn well. I must have redrawn them a million times until they looked right. That's what took me the longest too. I like how the cats came out and I learned a lot more about animal anatomy. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">I still like it regardless of the issues and plan on redoing it in the future. </span></span><br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;">On a side note, I have to redesign this blog. I know I can design it better so I really need to take some time and do that. The problem is is that I have a million other things to do and don't really have the time. I'm also lazy. It may take a while until you see a new layout soon. </span></span><br />
<span style="font-size: large;"><span style="font-size: small;"> </span></span><br />
<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoiRzkwh_8dQRHveNcttVNSQaoY9RLismtbz3SQPcY16joLBkjwynuPi11qafqmBN7UabuR0Qk4r9luOuibOwrE2TZMjygC4-eGVU6SDFCrXwUOG1mZxGoR2qpV5z2XmUDLv1OkXEjpMS3/s1600/zombie+cat+illusration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoiRzkwh_8dQRHveNcttVNSQaoY9RLismtbz3SQPcY16joLBkjwynuPi11qafqmBN7UabuR0Qk4r9luOuibOwrE2TZMjygC4-eGVU6SDFCrXwUOG1mZxGoR2qpV5z2XmUDLv1OkXEjpMS3/s320/zombie+cat+illusration.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
This is still taking too long but I like the direction this is going in. Hoping to finally get this completed.<br />
<br />
I also did some fun sketches on the side and just playing around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
My goal was to finish the cat illustration last week but I ended up catching a stomach virus. It lasted 5 days but I'm finally coming around. Today was the first day I was able to go back to work. Having a stomach virus is not fun. At times, I felt like I was dying.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I feel like this is getting closer to completion. I wanted more of a background but yet again, it doesn't look like there is going to be. I will have to plan it out better next time. I am also going to add more of the texture back into the background.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAaQYBCJUOEUDOAmPShghj3APyRpSgQHaYke35ewNZKTZbmciiezBwWxXe9liF9Wr91uugYztzvJoI-S7bSRMpiMrrzvfIOVvB-v6_kpAc2Woy5-BLX31KztLuTfWBtPcxfYcE3XHcMUrp/s1600/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="232" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiAaQYBCJUOEUDOAmPShghj3APyRpSgQHaYke35ewNZKTZbmciiezBwWxXe9liF9Wr91uugYztzvJoI-S7bSRMpiMrrzvfIOVvB-v6_kpAc2Woy5-BLX31KztLuTfWBtPcxfYcE3XHcMUrp/s320/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-blog.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
One of the things I learned so far is that this took way too long and I should not be such a perfectionist. But... I am glad I spent the time redrawing the cats I was not satisfied with and I finally got the big cat silhouette the way I had it in my head.<br />
<br />
Before doing this, my animal anatomy was not as good as I thought it was. Spending time doing a gazillion cat and animal anatomy studies have definitely made me more confident in drawing animals in different poses.<br />
<br />
I really feel that I can finish this by this weekend unless something unexpected happens.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1NR6EjGxLBqgUQFN1iduutJ0xlG7Bw2vSJdpdi9rKREU9ZSdSRHtit0qXkebGIGnUR288vSmep1al_t0Rg4_3MgHuNPA-448iFjmPN6gYaRd49yRrBnn_N3-M-_IhupVyMBJjnfx-2WqL/s700/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-cart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="218" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi1NR6EjGxLBqgUQFN1iduutJ0xlG7Bw2vSJdpdi9rKREU9ZSdSRHtit0qXkebGIGnUR288vSmep1al_t0Rg4_3MgHuNPA-448iFjmPN6gYaRd49yRrBnn_N3-M-_IhupVyMBJjnfx-2WqL/s320/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-cart.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
I ended up spending more time fixing various drawing problems that I've been noticing the more I work on this. I guess I should have seen this before I started painting but that never seems to work for me.<br />
<br />
Usually when I start painting is when I notice I need to redraw and fix things. Then I get unorganized and suddenly everything is on one layer and I get equally frustrated. I don't know why this happens almost every time but it's really annoying. I was hoping this would have been finished by now.<br />
<br />
I also realized I didn't quite understand the anatomy of a cat as well as I thought and required more observing and studying accompanied by reference. I do like the direction it's going but I feel as if I'm somewhat losing control. I am getting some of it back the more I redraw and fix things.<br />
<br />
Hoping this gets finished sooner rather than later.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-48045949942831738572013-06-23T23:10:00.001-04:002013-06-23T23:10:09.399-04:00More progress...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWr1C2HZ6JFJZ-liLV79QgE7ESkRSBIifndvXE6BLAHCTqWFT0jB0S8SzCb166sGHiFKaLC24b2H13HCQvMkPWplLvnGX4D3z47DFIozsGKbBdZ9eyJK5dCdMhu-RV5VxIu4YKMndALk5J/s1600/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-blog.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="220" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWr1C2HZ6JFJZ-liLV79QgE7ESkRSBIifndvXE6BLAHCTqWFT0jB0S8SzCb166sGHiFKaLC24b2H13HCQvMkPWplLvnGX4D3z47DFIozsGKbBdZ9eyJK5dCdMhu-RV5VxIu4YKMndALk5J/s320/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-blog.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I thought I would be finished with this but other events got in the way. I am learning a lot from doing this though. I'm trying to take the knowledge I have gained and apply it here. Hopefully this will be finished soon.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-71975881059646961062013-06-22T18:33:00.001-04:002013-06-22T18:33:30.236-04:00Made the font size smaller<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMlUJqPch_4Axz2EirJ60U6hE-bIh9rWLJtskcINIPZxYgWxpSAhVoySPZGSJ09nkQccp_3l6-tJlfWhLKBcURf5XRLMHqlrRDEz5AckqcLjfb8xcfu_5mdo5M2y2trEtSKs1oQWN5ijBi/s1600/Internet-Connected-TVs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjMlUJqPch_4Axz2EirJ60U6hE-bIh9rWLJtskcINIPZxYgWxpSAhVoySPZGSJ09nkQccp_3l6-tJlfWhLKBcURf5XRLMHqlrRDEz5AckqcLjfb8xcfu_5mdo5M2y2trEtSKs1oQWN5ijBi/s320/Internet-Connected-TVs.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
After looking at it again, I realized the original font size of the title was a little too big. It was 60pt. I made it 48pt. I think I def need to print this out and look at it to see if there is anything else I need to change. I also added an en dash between the years on the last sentence in the first paragraph. Did anyone know what an en dash was? I had no idea you were supposed to use it in-between dates until a couple of days ago when reading <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-Type-2nd-revised-expanded/dp/1568989695" target="_blank">Thinking with Type</a>. I should have read this book years ago.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjanTfOPgUp9w_FXI5zh_IkLXJECF8Wh11VmDfcE-80noyc5m-7Yo3EcesrL6-97QnRKBibg_k01x6blLWJy0peAhdsnMVMNtFg09oJGXMBbmfUqPAD_JEWzFvYZ76o3k-taT3ByeU3pcRK/s1600/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-cart.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjanTfOPgUp9w_FXI5zh_IkLXJECF8Wh11VmDfcE-80noyc5m-7Yo3EcesrL6-97QnRKBibg_k01x6blLWJy0peAhdsnMVMNtFg09oJGXMBbmfUqPAD_JEWzFvYZ76o3k-taT3ByeU3pcRK/s320/zombie+cat+illus-beginningtopaint-cart.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Tonight I finally started painting this thing. I'm always a little nervous when starting to paint something new but I'm thinking more before putting brush strokes down and hopefully, making smarter choices than just going in and hoping for the best. I'm taking baby steps so I will continue in this direction.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-72225456798682635182013-06-05T15:55:00.000-04:002013-06-05T15:55:16.716-04:00How to turn the air conditioning on<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bVr6aoGKnMyVAweBScqvBhMySLe3ceFzh0V7dbAZBLO7Ys0sdfcqYMOb5l_1OWCMkSH-kHYi-OoUUouqeCEHQDCjZSB5XQxQ-X_3wRwgLJnF6oCADI7V7m5Lc6MoNMjg2oPru6piJE3X/s1600/Turning+on+Air+Conditioning-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8bVr6aoGKnMyVAweBScqvBhMySLe3ceFzh0V7dbAZBLO7Ys0sdfcqYMOb5l_1OWCMkSH-kHYi-OoUUouqeCEHQDCjZSB5XQxQ-X_3wRwgLJnF6oCADI7V7m5Lc6MoNMjg2oPru6piJE3X/s320/Turning+on+Air+Conditioning-1.jpg" width="245" /></a></div>
I'm going away for a few days and for some reason the air conditioning makes a buzzing sound when it's turned on. Unfortunately the quickest anyone can come to clean the filter will be when I'm away. I've been turning the air off and on sporadically when it gets really hot.<br />
<br />
My mom doesn't know how to use the air conditioning in the house so I decided to make her a manual. It illustrates how to turn on and off the air conditioning. I'll show her before I leave of course but in case she forgets, she can look that over. <br />
<br />
I didn't think this would take a lot of time but it ended up taking a lot longer than I thought. In the end, it was still fun and I got to try out some new fonts I discovered. <br />
<br />Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-48096301744669642452013-06-01T23:21:00.001-04:002013-06-01T23:21:57.539-04:00Something I'm working on. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho6ZzHdEoS4KOLgV-JA5PZneUe8dJJMXrSyntzAdex1iLm_bdR33xZiYC1A0iAJpCaopFG52WhurEuN40onQpf4mK_D6gGHXpUJvLGF0ElG7iOB1QxBgx5sCcqyKjGafgszuftvHnQNFEv/s1600/zombie+cat+illus.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="209" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEho6ZzHdEoS4KOLgV-JA5PZneUe8dJJMXrSyntzAdex1iLm_bdR33xZiYC1A0iAJpCaopFG52WhurEuN40onQpf4mK_D6gGHXpUJvLGF0ElG7iOB1QxBgx5sCcqyKjGafgszuftvHnQNFEv/s320/zombie+cat+illus.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
This is a new illustration I'm working on. Drawing the cats has been a real challenge for me but I've been learning a lot on animal anatomy in general from doing this. I'm also getting better at manipulating the poses from imagination along with reference photos. I'm hoping to get this completed as soon as possible.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4S_xP6Nol1jl1hyNKaMEC_ND2T-d4NaQ0O4bFVs7mXySvasFUpOis28Lg2_310WlpnpKpP-lhhLx4cUY-jVN1kZhqPw-iuTqJLDFeH-MTr0ijslxd9rU1vrezaHFEEi1QaoPP7GrCk3Xw/s1600/redesigned-02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj4S_xP6Nol1jl1hyNKaMEC_ND2T-d4NaQ0O4bFVs7mXySvasFUpOis28Lg2_310WlpnpKpP-lhhLx4cUY-jVN1kZhqPw-iuTqJLDFeH-MTr0ijslxd9rU1vrezaHFEEi1QaoPP7GrCk3Xw/s320/redesigned-02.jpg" width="247" /></a></div>
I ended up tweaking this from the last post. I fixed the paragraphs by not justifying them. There was some awkward spacing in-between the words so I changed it. I think it looks better now.<br />
<br />
I'm currently reading the book <u><a href="http://www.amazon.com/Thinking-Type-2nd-revised-expanded/dp/1568989695/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1370143126&sr=1-1&keywords=type" target="_blank">Thinking with Type</a></u> and it's been really helpful. I'm learning a lot more about how to use typography more effectively. I wish I bought this book years ago.<br />
<br />
More to come soon.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-59096529650701874842013-05-27T22:51:00.002-04:002013-05-27T22:51:53.621-04:00some new graphic design stuff<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm currently in the middle of redoing my graphic design portfolio. I ended up redesigning an older ad I did from two years ago(first one above) and redid a catalog cover I did earlier this year(second one below). I'm going for a cleaner style in general to show more range in my portfolio. I'm realizing that I still have a lot to learn when it comes to layout and typography. A new concept I'm discovering is the use of white space. I recently read the Non-Designers book and even though the book is mostly geared toward secretaries with no art background that need to design flyers and newsletters, I learned a lot from it and feel I can apply it to my own work. The chapter on typography definitely clarified a lot for me. I currently bought Designing with Type and Don't be afraid of White Space.<br />
<br />
I'm slowly becoming more confident with my work and I'm starting to understand some of my past mistakes. I also invested in some fonts for the first time. I recently bought Futura book and Futura bold to create the catalog cover and I bought Warnock Pro Light for the body text for the ad above. I've been avoiding purchasing fonts because it's expensive but if I want to take this seriously, I don't have much choice. My wacom tablet died at work so I couldn't finish the character I started. Still trying to fix it though so fingers crossed.<br />
<br />
Anyway, I really don't like the way this site works. I've been too busy to redesign it but I should really make the time and fix it. Putting on my to do list. Starting drawing this during my lunch break. I'm planning on finishing it this week. The thought came to me while looking at Batman action figures online from a friends facebook post, what would a female Joker look like? I don't think this is close but I'm liking how it's coming out. <br />
<br />
I also started working on an illustration that's kicking my ass. I hope I finish the drawing tonight so I can post it. <br />

My mom was watching fashion star yesterday and I've been into watching Project Runway. I'm a little bit inspired by what the designers were doing. I decided to try some ideas out and see what I come up with. This is what I have so far. Still playing around with it.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-85033608102205621072013-03-05T21:10:00.004-05:002013-03-05T21:10:58.877-05:00Finished!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I finally finished this. I stuck it out through the hard times and didn't stop half way like I usually do. I like how it came out. Any thoughts are always welcome.<br />

For my next illustration, I'm definitely going to incorporate more of an environment.Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2778274281957586935.post-40311542506176197832013-02-19T23:46:00.001-05:002013-02-19T23:46:19.648-05:00Work in progress<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

You can add a twitter header to your twitter page now so this is what I've been working on for it. I didn't realize how time consuming it was going to be but it's getting there. I'm still not sure about the font or the size yet. Still playing around with that. <br /><br />Ianhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/08048968258057592918noreply@blogger.com0
